The Campus and the Department of Chemistry
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) is one of the oldest and biggest universities in Greece. It was established in 1926, while, currently, it educates more than 75.000 students per year. Life in AUTH campus is exciting due to the plethora of facilities offered and the potential for creatity expression (theatrical teams, photography exhibitions, musical performances etc.), socialization, mind and body exercise. Furthermore, the campus resides to the city center, meaning that most of the attractions of the city are accessible within a few minutes’ walk.

Particularly, Chemistry Department was established in 1927 as part of physicomathematical science and since mid-1940’s as independent department. Organic Chemistry laboratory is one of the fundamental laboratories of the department, currently, consisting of 8 faculty members and 3 assisting members. It covers plenty of the top front fields of organic chemistry, such as modern synthetic methodology, total synthesis, biomimetic synthesis, photocatalysis, medicinal chemistry. Finally, in the laboratory operates the only library of chemical compounds in Greece, where a big collection of organic molecules is stored under specific conditions and offered for biological screening and evaluation.
